Tinta is a Melbourne-based natural dye studio that creates sustainable textiles using botanical dyes and natural fibres. A combination of design and chemistry, each Tinta piece is hand-dyed and manufactured locally in Melbourne by talented artisans.
The natural dyeing process involves a delicate balance of plant pigments, heat, time and pH, and each piece of fabric can take days to prepare. We use fresh and dried local materials, including food byproducts like avocado stones, onion skins and pomegranate rinds, and fallen plant materials such as eucalyptus leaves and other local flora.
The colours and patterns created using these dyes are impossible to replicate exactly, making each piece one-of-a-kind.
